Fiber Optic Corrugated Pipe Specifications

Fiber optic corrugated pipes (COD) are high-density polyethylene (HDPE) conduits designed for flexible, durable, and multi-channel cable protection, suitable for underground and telecommunication applications.

Material and Construction

Fiber optic corrugated pipes, commonly referred to as COD (Corrugated Optic Ducts), are made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), often using PE 4710 resin, which ensures high impact resistance, chemical resistance, and long service life exceeding 50 years . The pipes are spirally corrugated, providing flexibility and the ability to bend up to 90 degrees or more without special tools . Both the inner and outer tubes are made of HDPE, maintaining consistent elasticity and thermal stability .

Inner Duct Configuration

COD pipes can contain multiple inner ducts, typically ranging from 3 to 9 channels, allowing simultaneous installation of several fiber optic cables . The inner ducts are color-coded (red, white, blue, yellow) for easy identification of cable lines . Each inner duct can accommodate cables up to 75% of its diameter, which is higher than traditional conduits that allow only 50% .

Dimensions and Models

  • Standard diameters: 75mm, 90mm, 110mm, with custom sizes available .
  • Coiling lengths: Typically 255–300 meters per coil, but can be extended up to 500–1000 meters depending on inner duct count and diameter .
  • Pressure resistance: Spiral corrugation enhances strength, making COD pipes 8–10 times more pressure-resistant than traditional straight-wall PE pipes .

Installation Features

  • Flexible and lightweight, allowing easy handling and installation in trenches, under roads, or through obstacles .
  • Non-conductive and airtight, reducing electrical hazards and protecting cables from moisture .
  • UV and weather resistant, suitable for outdoor and underground applications .
  • Manhole connectors and couplers are available for secure jointing and integration with existing infrastructure .

Applications

COD pipes are widely used for:

  • Telecommunication networks and fiber optic cable protection
  • Underground power cable conduits
  • Drainage and industrial cable management
  • Urban and highway infrastructure projects

Summary

Fiber optic corrugated pipes (COD) offer high flexibility, multi-channel capability, long lifespan, and superior pressure resistance, making them ideal for modern telecommunication and underground cable installations. They are available in various diameters, coiling lengths, and inner duct configurations, with color-coded ducts for easy cable management and installation efficiency. These specifications ensure reduced installation costs, faster deployment, and enhanced safety for fiber optic and power cable networks .
