Bahrain is significantly expanding its optical cable network through domestic fiber upgrades and international subsea cable projects, enhancing connectivity, speed, and digital infrastructure.Subsea C...
Bahrain has recently advanced multiple subsea cable initiatives to strengthen regional and global connectivity. The Al Khaleej Cable, a 1,400 km subsea link branching from the SEA-ME-WE 6 system, connects Bahrain with Qatar, UAE, and Oman. Owned and operated by Batelco, it enhances network diversity, resilience, and international data exchange, supporting speeds exceeding 100 terabits per second and low-latency connections between the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Europe . Additionally, stc Bahrain has successfully landed the 2Africa Pearls subsea cable, part of the world's longest subsea system connecting 33 countries via 46 landing points. This cable, now operational in Bahrain, increases connectivity capacity tenfold, supports data-heavy applications like cloud computing, AI, and 5G, and integrates Bahrain into global digital markets . Full operational readiness is expected by Q3 2026 .
On the domestic front, Bahrain Network (BNET) has launched a nationwide project to migrate all copper internet lines to ultra-high-speed fiber networks. This initiative aligns with the Sixth National Telecommunications Plan (NTP6) and aims to increase fiber penetration by approximately 15%, providing gigabit-speed broadband to residents and businesses. The upgrade ensures faster, more reliable internet, smoother streaming, and improved online services, positioning Bahrain as a regional digital hub .
These projects collectively support Bahrain's Economic Vision 2030, promoting a knowledge-based economy, enhancing ICT infrastructure, and attracting investment. The combination of subsea cables and domestic fiber upgrades ensures network resilience, low latency, and high-capacity connectivity, enabling Bahrain to meet growing digital demands and strengthen its role as a regional communications hub .
Applications These cables are used to realize patch cords, equipment harnesses and internal connections. They are compatible with
