Step 1: Preparation and Safety

  • Tools and Materials: Prepare screwdrivers, wire strippers, multimeter, insulation tape, cable ties, and appropriately rated wires .
  • Box Selection: Choose a distribution box with suitable IP/NEMA rating, material (steel or plastic), and load capacity for your environment .

Step 2: Mounting the Distribution Box

  • Mark the installation location, drill holes, and fix the box with expansion bolts. Ensure it is level, stable, and accessible for maintenance .
  • For outdoor installations, use a waterproof box and add a rain cover to prevent water ingress .

Step 3: Wiring Connections

  • Main Supply Connection: Connect the incoming phase and neutral wires to the input terminals of the Main MCB (usually a double-pole MCB for single-phase systems), .
  • RCCB Connection: Connect the output of the Main MCB to the input of the RCCB. The RCCB protects against leakage currents and electrical shocks .
  • Load MCBs:
    • For single-pole MCBs, connect only the phase wire from the RCCB output to the MCB input.

  • Load Connections: Connect the phase, neutral, and earth wires from each load to the corresponding MCB output and busbars .

  • Route wires neatly inside the box, using cable ties to prevent tangling and allow heat dissipation .
  • Label each circuit clearly for future maintenance and troubleshooting .

  • Insulation Resistance Test: Use an insulation tester to verify that wiring insulation meets required standards .
  • Continuity and Function Test: Check each circuit with a multimeter to ensure proper connectivity and that breakers operate correctly .
